Silver Lining Crib Bedding by Kidsline - A Product Review

Author: Katherine L

Kidsline, one of the most well known brands of crib bedding, is available to customers through many national chains, including Babies R Us, baby specialty stores, and online retailers. Silver Lining crib bedding, introduced by Kidsline in late 2005, appeals to those interested in the Noah's Ark theme for their nursery dcor. Though the Silver Lining crib bedding collection retails for between $210 and $250 for the six-piece set, which is on the higher end of pricing compared to other national brands, the quality justifies the price.

The Silver Lining crib bedding set comes with six pieces, including a quilt, bumper, dust ruffle, fitted sheet, diaper stacker, and one valance. The six pieces are also available for purchase separately. The collection is made from a combination of 100% cotton (fitted sheet, quilt and bumper backs), 100% polyester (diaper stacker bumper front, dust ruffle, and valance), and poly/cotton blends (quilt front). While Silver Lining does not have the considerable number of accessories that most Kidsline bedding collections contain, there is still a sizeable variety available.

As with all bedding collections, the focal point of the crib set is the quilt. Silver Lining's quilt is made with at least 10 different fabrics, including satin, cotton, fleece, velvet, and velour. The satin touches make the quilt shimmer and shine. The overall effect of the fabrics and colors, which are bright without being blinding, make the quilt very touchable. The trim of the quilt is made from a soft berber-like fabric in a light sage green. The fleece background of the quilt is particularly soft and provides a nice contrast for the appliqud and embroidered patches. On occasion, the stitching around the patches stray from its intended path, however, this does not detract from the quality or craftsmanship of the quilt.

The bumper stands 11" tall with ties on the top and bottom. The inward facing bumper looks like the quilt for a nice connection between the two pieces. The outward facing bumper is an unadorned cream fabric. One minor obstacle in washing the bumper is that it is one continuous piece, as opposed to 2, 3, or 4 separate pieces. The dust ruffle has a 13" drop with crushed velvet and light green embroidered eyelet trim. The diaper stacker measures 26" by 12" and can hold at least two-dozen diapers. The valance measures 14" by 60". The fitted sheet and back of the quilt are both made from a printed star pattern fabric. I would caution you to be aware of potential pattern fade in the sheet from multiple washings and normal wear and tear. I would recommend that consumers purchase separate solid colored sheets for every day use (light blue, green, or cream), and reserve the Silver Lining sheet for when you want to show off your nursery to visitors.

Unfortunately for Canadian consumers purchasing from a United States online retailer, the Silver Lining bedding collection is manufactured in China. Customers in Canada would be required to pay import duties of as much as 18% of the stated prices.
